INSIGHTS
🥧 Pi Day 🥧

How many numbers of pi (𝝅) do you remember? Every year, people celebrate Pi Day, which was officially recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2009, by sharing math jokes and eating (and sometimes throwing) pies. March 14th is designated as Pi Day because it resembles the first three digits of pi: 3.14. It's also Albert Einstein's birthday! On this day, there are restaurants or other businesses that celebrate by having a limited time deal. Most popularly, some pizza places sell pizzas for $3.14, so if you are looking for cheap eats, make sure to check it out.
Fun Facts about Pi:
Ancient Egyptians and Babylonians discovered the constant 𝝅 more than 4,000 years ago, but it was only in the 18th century that mathematicians named it “pi”.
Pi has been calculated to 100 trillion digits by Google Cloud, but there’s still a lot more to go since it is an irrational number.
A doctor named Dr. Edwin Goodwin tried to make using 3.2 for pi into law, but it failed to pass because the state senate thought it was silly.
Why should you never start a conversation with pi? Because it goes on forever.
Fun Facts about Pie:
Pizzas are also called pies.
The people of Gloucester have sent eel pie to the royal family for coronations and jubilees since the Middle Ages.
In Roman times, pie pastry was treated as food containers to keep the food fresher for longer, and it was meant to be thrown away after the filling was consumed since it was tough and hard.
Sweet pies filled with fruit were not introduced until the 1500s. Before then, it was only meat filling.
