CCSC April Newsletter

April in Action

Happy April and Happy Easter! It's hard to believe spring is already here. It's a season of growth, and we look forward to continuing that growth in our community through our vocational training, youth programs and other efforts.

In March, we began training new students in cooking and bartending, announced enrollment for our youth summer camp, continued training our latest CityBuild class and even attended a couple of galas in support of our community partners!

Read about all of this and more in this month's newsletter.

PS - Don't miss your chance to join the CityBuild Academy - NOW RECRUITING!

In Support of Our Partners

CYC Annual Gala

The Community Youth Center (CYC) 55th Annual Gala was a vibrant celebration of youth resilience and leadership, bringing together hundreds of supporters for an unforgettable evening. The event featured inspiring speeches, dynamic performances, and a special video highlighting CYC’s impact. Honorees included outstanding youth, community leaders, and partners dedicated to uplifting the next generation.

Emcee Kristen Sze kept the energy high, while performances from LionDanceME and Korescence captivated the audience. Made possible by generous sponsors and donors, the gala reinforced CYC’s commitment to providing vital programs that empower youth and strengthen communities.

CCCC Annual Gala

The Chinese Community Children's Center (CCCC) Annual Spring Gala 2025 was a memorable celebration of the organization’s 50 years of service to the San Francisco community. Held on March 20, 2025, at HL Peninsula Restaurant, the evening brought together families, educators and community leaders to support bilingual early childhood education. Guests enjoyed an elegant dinner, inspiring speeches and performances by CCCC children, while the Role Model and Community Service Awards honored individuals dedicated to uplifting the community (including Donald Luu, President of the SF Chinese Chamber of Commerce).

March Events at Hosted at Our Center

CACAA Lunar New Year Party

The Chinese American Cultural and Arts Association hosted a festive Lunar New Year celebration at the CCSC office in Chinatown. CCSC students catered the event, serving a delicious array of traditional and modern dishes.

SFPD API Forum

We hosted the SFPD API Forum at our CCSC office to discuss safety and strengthen ties between the San Francisco Police Department and the Asian Pacific Islander community. The event offered a space for open dialogue on community concerns and solutions. Our culinary students cooked and served delicious dishes, adding a personal touch to the gathering and fostering a warm, collaborative atmosphere.

Community Outreach

Fostering connections within the community is essential to our work at CCSC. Through outreach, we connect with clients, raise awareness about our services and build relationships with other local organizations.

Construction Program

Spring Alumni Celebration

The CityBuild Spring Alumni Gathering on March 28 was a chance for CityBuild graduates to reconnect and celebrate their accomplishments. There was food, a raffle and time for everyone to connect with other CityBuild alumni. There was an icebreaker where everyone build paper towers, too (pictured below)! We're so glad so many of our former students were able to come and participate! Looking forward to more gatherings in the future.

CityBuild Cycle 42

In March, our 42nd CityBuild class (Cycle 42) continued their construction training. One of our partners, Southland, came and spoke to our students about their future careers in the industry. We are very appreciative of their commitment to our students' success. Also, Cycle 42 made their own toolboxes, as pictured above.

CityBuild is Recruiting

If you know a San Francisco resident interested in a career in the construction industry, CityBuild Academy (CBA) can help them take their first step! We recommend attending one of our informative orientations, available both online and in-person, to learn more about CBA, the opportunities available and the application process.

Over 12 weeks, clients will gain:

  • Hands-on Training in multiple construction disciplines.

  • Industry-recognized certifications meeting union standards.

  • Professional Development for a Successful Apprenticeship Journey.

Through monthly workshops and volunteer opportunities, students gain confidence, learn about diverse cultures and enhance their college and career readiness. The program helps them develop a stronger sense of identity and belonging within the community.

FIT Youth Volunteering

Last month, youth from our FIT program brought creativity and energy to the 2025 Bloom Shaboom festival. They helped by volunteering at arts and crafts stations, helping with games, serving food and greeting participants.

Not only did they get to be part of a vibrant community event, but they also built up their own confidence, teamwork and leadership skills. Through experiences like this, the FIT program gives students a chance to connect, grow and make a real impact -- and have some fun along the way!
